Just last week, Roger suddenly texted me to ask if it was okay for him to stay at my place if he came to Melbourne this week. I've no idea why would he come for such a short holiday (2 days, 1 night?!!) but I'm still excited just to be able to see him and catch up about each other's lives. He wanted to take me to a fine restaurant, so I picked Vue Du Monde - only because it's famous, highly-rated and in the city itself.

You can see the chefs preparing the food on the reflection of the mirror.

Starter - quail egg yolk with tuna, I think. And the broth underneath reminds you of chicken broth our mums make at home. Pretty good.

Some sort of taco. And the green stuff is apply jelly. I know the combination sounds weird, but I assure you it tasted really fine.

An assortment of bread were offered but I picked this one. I forgot which flavor was it though.

Mushrooms - because we told the waitress that we love them hehe.

Roger~

Foie gras - but in powder form? And with some chilled yellow liquid that was poured in after the dish was served.

It was served with these crispy nut/rice things. A pretty good touch to the dish.

Salmon - cooked to perfection. It was cooked on the outside and nearly raw on the inside. I think the pile next to it was blue fin or tuna? Not sure, but was nice!

Mouth cleaner - some form of fruit juice served in a chilled glass.

Me~

Candid shot of me drinking up the martini glass.

Chicken breast.

Friends est October 2005.

Mouth-cleanser #2 - yellow kiwi sorbet lollies! Mmmm...

Next table had some seafood broth. You drink what is filtered to the bottom. Interesting, huh?

Pre-dessert. Served in mini egg trays.

Flavored creams. Apparently its a spin-off from the traditional creme brulee recipe.

Dessert #1 - The first one's meant to be a refreshing dessert - different parts of a passionfruit. The waitress said it was basically a passionfruit cheesecake served upside down.

And the one on the right is souffle served in passionfruit skin? But i preferred the one on the left. When it touches your taste buds, it makes me feel '!!!!' like mini explosions going off inside your head. Orgasmic, really. Not that I really know how an orgasm feels like, but you catch my drift.
The second dessert would have been something richer - like chocolate. But, we were running so late that we had to cancel it. :(

At the reception. Right before we put our coats on and rushed off for the movie with the rest of my friends at Crown.
I think I had a little too much wine over dinner that I initially felt a little drowsy during the first part of The Bank Job. Hey, they served different wine in between every single course! Well, we asked for different wine to match what we were eating. And I swear, one of it tasted as strong as Bacardi 151.
The next morning, we went to a nearby cafe for simple breakfast. Then he joined his friends for some light shopping while I headed off for a full-day shift at work. We met up again for a simple dinner before sending him off. Now, it'll be another half a year before he even manages to get off work to come visit again. :(
Thanks for dinner, Rog. I hope it was a memorable one for you as much as it was to me. I'll have another long list of places to take you the next time you visit :)
